the docs faq says there is no permanently free tier. new accounts get $5 in credits after adding a verified payment method, and the credits expire 30 days later. we don't know when this changed; this is our first snapshot.
hugging face: free accounts get no monthly inference credits
the inference providers pricing table lists 'none' for free users. pro users get $2.00/month. this is our first snapshot.
gemini 4 argon isn't on the free tier
the pricing page marks gemini-4-argon (and gemini-3.1-pro-preview) 'not available' on the free tier. 3.8 flash, 3.6 flash, 3.5/3.1 flash-lite and 2.5 pro/flash are free of charge.

the playground, model catalog, inference api and byok are no longer available to any customer, including existing ones.
github sets july 30 as the github models shutdown date
full retirement announced for 2026-07-30, with brownouts on july 16 and july 23.
